The Principality of Asturias

Oviedo is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias and main site of the University. A Medieval city in origin, it is located in a gorgeous frame of natural beauties, between mountains and valleys close to the sea; it offer its visitors the tranquility and security of small cities (of around 220,000 inhabitants) of the Spanish North.

Oviedo constitutes the geographic, political, administrative, cultural and service centre of Asturias, one of the regions in the north of Spain where it is still possible to enjoy pure nature, or practise diverse sports: hiking, canoeing, surfing, scuba diving...

The Asturian coast, of 345 km (214.4 miles) of length, presents a splendid landscape of beaches, coves and cliffs. It goes from urban beaches to beaches surrounded by nature, including Jurassic dig sites, or the Natural Spaces that are our greatest pride (Reserves of the Biosphere, National Parks, Natural Parks, Natural Reserves, Protected Landscapes and Natural Monuments).
